Amirali Lahrudi, the late leader of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (Democrat Firgasi) passed away on 08th December 2014 at his residence in Baku, the capital of Northern Azerbaijan.
Mr. Lahrudi was born in 1923 in town of Khiyav-Mehsginshehr, South Azerbaijan. He joined the Democratic Party’s National Liberation Army ( the Fadayies) in 1945 and actively participated in formation of National Government of Azerbaijan. He was among thousands of party members displaced to Northern Azerbaijan after the disastrous annexation of Southern Azerbaijan by İranian Army in 1946.
Mr. Lahrudi was elected as the head of Democrat Party after the death of legendary commander of the National Liberation Army, General Qulam Yehya and held the position until the end of his live.
The party’s first legendary leader, the Prime Minister Pishevari was killed in a premeditated motor vehicle “accident” in 1947 as soon as he spoke out against USSR leader Stalin’s South Azerbaijan policies which Pishevari termed as infidelity to ideals and the people of Azerbaijan.
