9 members of parliament from Italy, Spain and the Netherlands called to prevent the destruction of the national and cultural identity of Azerbaijanis.

In their open letter addressed to Joseph Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the members of the European Parliament stated that “Persianization and discriminatory policy against Azerbaijanis cannot be ignored”.

They wrote that 30 million Azerbaijanis live in Iran, and that the Iranian authorities are trying to Persianize them by carrying out an extreme assimilation policy against them.

AP representatives said that the participation of Azerbaijanis living in Iran in the country’s political life is limited. The representatives also emphasized that Azerbaijanis are discriminated against with regards to environmental issues.
