Ali Samadpour, an Azerbaijani writer and poet who is serving his 2 year prison time for political and ethnic rights activities in the prison off Sarab, South Azerbaijan is reportedly in critical condition as state of his health is deteriorating.
The activist is suffering from high blood pressure, heart condition and severe allergy and the non-hygienic condition of the prison of Sarab has made his health symptoms worse.
Mr. Samadpour has already served 19 months of his sentence. It is the law of general application that prisoners are freed upon serving 2 /3rd of their sentences. However, for purely political reasons the authorities refused to apply the law to the Azerbaijani poet.
