The fate and whereabouts of another South Azerbaiani activist, Yashar Tabrizi, who was arrested on November 19, are unknown.
“After Yashar Tabrizi was summoned to the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Tabriz, we have not been able to obtain information about his whereabouts, condition, and charges. This has further increased our concern about his health,” his relatives said.
On November 12, intelligence officers raided the Tabriz activist’s home without a court order, confiscated his personal belongings, and summoned him to to the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on November 19. He attended the IRGC’s Intelligence Unit on November 19 and has not returned home ever since.
Security officers previously arrested Yashar Tabrizi on September 14, 2023, and took him to the security department’s pre-trial detention center.
After several days of interrogation, the Azerbaijani activist was transferred to Security Section 204 of Tehran’s Evin Prison and was temporarily released on bail on April 25, 2024, pending trial.
He was charged with “propaganda against the government” and sentenced to 1 year in prison.
