The court hearing of the South Azerbaijani lawyer and human rights defender Makhammedrza Faqihi was held in Theran. He shared about this on his social media account.

Faqihi made his defense submission regarding the charges brought against him held in the 28th section of the Revolutionary Tribunal of Tehran.

The Azerbaijani lawyer has been charged with “gathering and conspiring to disrupt public order”.

Faqihi was arrested on October 12, 2022 in Tehran for participating in a demonstration by lawyers protesting the “violation of the rights of protesters and Article 27 of the Constitution of Iran”.

He was released on October 25 after several days of detention and interrogation.

Makhammedrza Faqihi previously acted as an advocate for a number of Turkic cultural political activists, including Abbas Lisani.

Update: At the end of the trial show Mr. Fagihi was faund guilty of the charges and senetenced to 5 years in prison. Mr. Fagihi will appeal the sentence.
