The agents of Iranian intelligence agency, Ettelaat have stormed into residences of many South Azerbaijani activists in South Azerbaijan and made many arbitrary arrests.
Sahand Meali of city of Sarab, Sina Ershadi and Reza Nurani of Khiyav-Meshgin are reported to have been arbitrarily detained and beaten up while being arrested. Ettelaat of Sarab is reported to have gone as far as snatching Sahand Meali’s both parents holding them for a day and releasing them in return to Sahand’s “voluntary” surrender.
Activists are believed to have been apprehended in relation to gratify on the walls of some schools demanding education in mother language on the first day of school year. It is feared that the activists are subjected to harsh treatments and torture in custody.
Over 35 million South Azerbaijanis deprived of their basic human rights have been demanding education in their mother language for the last 8 decades; however, their rightful demands have been suppressed by the chauvinistic Persian regimes of Iran as of yet.
Despite the article 15 of of Iran’s constitution which permits education of non-Farsi speakers, the languages of non-Persian peoples are banned and activists demanding education in their mother languages are severely persecuted.
