The judicial authorities of city of Ahar located in East Azerbaijan Province has informed the family of young prisoner Hadi Atazada that he died in the prison. However, the video footage released from the hospital, which shows Hadi Atazadeh’s corps being washed, proves sever beating bruises on the body of this young Azerbaijani activist. It appears that Atazada was tortured/ flogged to death. The judicial authorities have refused to conduct an autopsy and forced the family to bury their son.
Flogging sanctions are being issued and enforced in accordance to Islamic Sharia in Iranian courts, where the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights explicitly prohibits the use of humiliating and inhumane human dignity, such as flogging.
