Ali Kheirjou, an Azerbaijani activist from the city of Ardebil, South Azerbaijan has been  convicted of affiliation with “ Chanlibel Organization”, considered to be an “anti-Islamic clandestine group”. The Tribunal of Islamic Revolution of the Province of Ardebil has found him guilty of “Acting against the national security of the state.”

Ali Kheirjou has been  sentenced to 5 years in prison. He has been ordered to expend his prison time in exile prison of the Province of Kermanshah.  The Kermanshah Prison is located at the city of Kermanshah which is 700 kilometers away from the activist’s hometown of Ardebil.  The tribunal  has also pronounced a judgment of 2 years   residency ban in any South Azerbaijani province. Accordingly, Mr. Kehirjou won’t be allowed to return to his hometown or any other South Azerbaijani settlement after the end of his prison term.
