The students of various universities in southern Azerbaijan continue to demand education in their mother language, Azerbaijani Turkish.
The most recent of such demands is a signed petition by the students of Ahar University which was submitted to the dean of the university, Nadir Asadi, demanding education in their mother tong, Turkish.
After decades of struggle, the Language and Literature of Azerbaijani Turkish is offered as an optional general course in the Universities of Tabriz, Tabriz Azad, Maragha, Urmia, and Urmia University of Technology. The South Azerbaijani activists ans students demand that the whole education must be in Turkish language.
