Four South Azerbaijani Prisoners Refuse Attendending Revolutionary Court

Prominent South Azerbaijani activists Abbas Lisani, Ali Khayirju, Yusuf Kari, and Behzad Dashti have been summoned to Branch 28 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court after months of detention.

According to reports, Abbas Lisani and Yusuf Kari, currently held in Evin Prison, have described the proceedings as a “show trial” and announced that they will not attend the hearing. Meanwhile, despite a court order granting Yusuf Kari release on bail, security agencies allegedly intervened to prevent his release.

The four activists were arrested in November 2025 and have reported mistreatment during detention, including solitary confinement, physical abuse, and denial of medical care. Human rights advocates say the case reflects growing pressure on South Azerbaijani activists and raises concerns about fair trial standards and judicial independence in Iran.
