Security forces of occupyin regime of iran have carried out a new wave of arrests targeting Azerbaijani activists in the cities of Ardabil, Meshgin Shahr, and Ahar.

In the early hours of June 28, Asgar Akbarzadeh and Ali Vatheghi, two Azerbaijani national movement activists, were arrested at their homes in Ardabil and taken to an undisclosed location. At around the same time, Siaamak Mirzai, a well-known Azerbaijani activist, was arrested by security forces in Meshgin Shahr.

In a separate incident, Jalal Dorougar, an Azerbaijani Turkic activist, was arrested at his workplace in the city of Ahar. Authorities have not officially disclosed the reasons for his arrest or his place of detention.

Dorougar’s arrest came one day after a memorial ceremony marking the third day since the passing of Saleh Mollaabbasi. The ceremony, held at the Chahardah Masoum Mosque in Ahar, was attended by a number of Turkic political and civil activists and featured banners and leaflets in the Turkic language.

As of the time of publication, no official information has been released regarding the whereabouts of the four detainees, the security agency responsible for the arrests, or the reasons for their detention.

Siaamak Mirzai, Asgar Akbarzadeh, Ali Vaseghi, and Jalal Dorougar are long-standing Azerbaijani Turkic activists who have previously faced repeated arrests, imprisonment, and judicial proceedings in connection with their civil and cultural activities and advocacy for the rights of Azerbaijani Turks.

Their families have so far been unable to obtain reliable information about their condition or whereabouts, and efforts to determine their fate and place of detention are ongoing.
