South Azerbaijani Activist Abbas Lisani Denied Specialized Medical Care in Evin Prison

The 12th month of imprisonment has begun for Abbas Lisani, an imprisoned activist in the South Azerbaijani national movement. According to information provided by his relatives, the deputy supervising prosecutor at Evin Prison has opposed transferring him to a hospital for an MRI scan of his spine and a specialized medical examination.

Although the prison doctor has issued a referral for a neurological examination, Lisani reportedly remains unable to access specialized medical care. There have also been reported problems with providing him with prescribed medications and supplements, as well as ensuring a regular supply of his blood pressure medication.

Lisani has suffered from a herniated disc for many years. The reported denial of access to medication and medical services has heightened concerns about his health.

Abbas Lisani and Yusif Kari are currently being held in Room 6 of Ward 7 at Evin Prison. Reports indicate that they have also been denied the possibility of temporary release.

Abbas Lisani, Ali Kheyirju, Yusif Kari, and Bahram Dashti were arrested on November 11, 2025. According to reports, the four activists were collectively sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison.
