The arrest comes amid recent developments in the case known as “Demokratlar,”_ Democrats_ in which judicial notices were reportedly issued to several convicted Azerbaijani national activists, ordering them to report to the relevant judicial authorities to begin serving their prison sentences.

Branch Two of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court sentenced Nasser Razmjou to three years and seven months of imprisonment on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security” and an additional two years and nine months on charges of “membership in the Demokratlar group.”

In September 2023, Razmjou was arrested alongside several other Azerbaijani national activists, including Yurosh Mehralibeyglu, Ali Babaei, Davoud Shiri, Araz Ebrahimnejad, Amirhossein Aghaei, Javad Soudbar, Morteza Nourmohammadi, Hamed Yeganepour, Hossein Azadi, Ebrahim Avazadeh, Mehrdad Ghaderi, and Mir Mohammadreza Movahhed.
