6 MONTHS IMPRISONMENT FOR “ATTEMPTED PARTICIPATION” IN TURKVISION SONG CONTESTS

The Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal of Tabriz has convicted Mr. Bagir Ibrahimpur of “Establishing an illegal group and disseminating propaganda against the Islamic state”.
Mr. Ibrahimpur has been sentenced to 6 months in prison for simply establishing a music ensemble and attempting to partake in the Turkvision Song Contests.
Ibrahimpur who is pictured below  is a  cultural activist  and the head  of the Lachin Children’s Music Ensemble in Tabriz, South Azerbaiijan .

The Lachin Ensemble of Tabriz was one of the contestabagir ibrahimpournts of the 2010 Turkvision Song Contests.  The Group had been planing  to attend this year’s song contests as well. However, the group members have been persecuted by Iran’s Spy Agency, Ettelaat. They were forced to revoke their travel itineraries and barred from partaking in the 2014 Turkvision Song contest.
TurkVision is an exclusively cultural event attended by singers and ensembles of Turkic  nations, peoples and communities around the world.

The Iranian regime in a failed attempt to conceal the very existence of Turkic-Azerbaijani communities in Iran has barred  the South Azerbaijanis from partaking in such events and contests.
