POLITICAL ACTIVIST ABBAS LISANI ARRESTED

Iran’s intelligence agency, Ettelaat has arrested another well-known South Azerbaijani rights advocate Mr. Abbas Lisani of Ardebil on 23rd of July 2015. He was transferred to Ardebil Prison to serve his most recent sentence of 1 year issued by the Ardebil Revolutionary Tribunal for “disseminating Anti-Islamic Republic Propaganda”. It is feared that Lisani is locked with dangerous criminals.

In his open letter to the Head of Iran’s Judiciary, Mr. Lisani called for his public trial and refused to participate in the closed hearing held before the Revolutionary Tribunal approximately a year ago.
Therefore, the tribunal issued the custodial sentence of 1 year at the end of a summary ex-parte trial. The activist requested a leave to appeal; however, the Appeal Court refused to grant Mr. Lisani with a leave and has upheld the Revolutionary Tribunal’s decision. Mr. Lisani had spent years in prison and exile for his patriotic activities prior to his most recent arrest.
