Starting from January 8, people in the cities of South Azerbaijan — Urmia, Tabriz, Khoy, Qazvin, Zanjan, Maragheh, and Ardabil — simultaneously and in unity began protest demonstrations. The protesters took to the streets with Azerbaijan’s own national goals and slogans, resolutely saying “no” to both the mullah regime and the Pahlavi Persian fascist dictatorship. The chanted slogans included:

“Freedom, Justice, Self Governance!”
“Death to dictatorship!”
“I am neither a monarchist nor a sheikhist; I am a nationalist, a nationalist!”
“Azerbaijan is honor; Pahlavi is dishonorable!”
“Azerbaijan is honor; the Basij are dishonorable!”
“We are ready to die; we are Babak’s soldiers!”
