South Azerbaijani Student Ehsan Feridi Faces Execution!

Ehsan Feridi, a 22-year-old South Azerbaijani student, is facing the death penalty following an unjust trial, as the Iranian regime continues to intensify pressure on Turkic youth. The occupying regime’s repressive policies against South Azerbaijani Turks have once again taken a deadly turn. Feridi, a student at Tabriz University of Technology, is on the brink of execution under a death sentence for the charge of “spreading corruption on earth”

According to sources, Feridi was summoned by the Tabriz Revolutionary Court Prosecutor’s Office on June 18, 2024, detained, and sent to Tabriz Prison after interrogation. In February of the same year, Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court issued a death sentence against him based on “reports from security agencies.” Previously, Branch 2 had sentenced him to death on the charge of “moharabe” (waging war against God), and the appeals court had upheld that ruling.

Close family sources report that the Tabriz Intelligence Directorate has put intense pressure on the family and threatened them to prevent the news from spreading. Feridi’s lawyer’s defenses were reportedly ignored during the court proceedings, with the case entirely directed by security agencies.

Earlier, in March 2024, Feridi was sentenced to six months in prison for “propaganda against the regime” and released on bail. However, the case was reopened, and the charge was escalated to “spreading corruption on earth”, which under Iranian law carries an automatic death sentence. He is currently being held in the quarantine section of Tabriz Prison, and student circles warn that the execution could occur at any moment.
