The following is the most recent shot of the disappearing Urmia Lake in Southern Azerbaijan.. The lake was once considered to be the largest salt lake of the world.
Many in Southern Azerbaijan believe that the lake is being dried up on purpose by the Iranian regime. According to many Southern Azerbaijanis, the lake is dried up for use of its uranium-rich salt in uranium enrichment programs. Many activists perceive that the government also intends to force the Turkish residents of the region out of the region as the lake’s disappearance has caused salt tsunamis which have made the region inhabitable.
